12 executions in the city of Shiraz, southern Iran

12 prisoners were executed in Shiraz, last Sunday, January 15th.

According to a national press agency, 5 prisoners out of 12 were hanged in public, in different areas of the city; while the remaining 7 were executed in the city prison of Adelabad. They were convicted under numerous counts of indictment, but mainly for drug trafficking. No information was released on the age of these prisoners; and in Iran, not only man and woman but even children are executed.

In Iran, with these executions, more than 54 people have been executed since the 1st of January. More than 1350 people are on death row, and 546 were executed in 2010. Iran is now the second country, after China, in the number of executions.
